POSITION SUMMARY:

The Material Handler is responsible for providing support in various areas of Lowe-Martin operations to facilitate the workflow.  Support work will vary from floor maintenance such as the movement of material for disposal, Compactor Operation, Winter Maintenance protocol, housekeeping as well as various materials handling tasks utilizing any of 3 lift trucks

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Receive instructions at the start of the day from the direct supervisor or Manager, Lettershop and Shipping Operations.
  • Handle all assigned tasks on a timely basis
  • Support the Receiving administrator with all incoming shipments and handle as per instructions
  • Operate the forklift to remove materials from the suppliers' trucks following careful monitoring that all safety regulations have been met. (Wheels Chocked, Ignition turned off).
  • Transfer all Chemical or Flammables immediately to the appropriate storage areas.
  • Verify that incoming samples are accompanied by the authorized LM P.O. as per procedure.
  • Sort and distribute all incoming shipments on a timely basis.
  • Handle any back-up responsibilities assigned by or during the absence Shipping/Receiving personnel.
  • Verify that skids do not exceed the maximum weights prior to placement onto the warehouse shelf.
  • Assist LM employees with placing or removal of material from the mezzanine as may be required.
  • Participate in any audits of shipped goods for both incoming and outgoing items.
  • Handle all Forklift requirements in strict accordance with Lowe-Martin's policy and procedure including strict adherence to completion of the operator's pre-use requirements
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

 

MUST HAVES:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or High School Diploma
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in Shipping and Receiving
  • Forklift and Reach Truck licence, an asset
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Forklift Theory & Practical licence from an approved centre
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects
  • Knowledge and understanding of current Health and Safety legislation, processes and protocols.
