The Large Machine Operator for Bindery is responsible for performing the day-to-day activities required to bind, finish, cut and fold printed material. This position involves the operation of the Polar Knives, Stahl and MBO folders, Heidelberg stitcher, Muller Martini perfect binder, die cutter, Dick Moll folder/gluer and additional assorted bindery equipment.  Additional duties include:

  • Operate machines that perform binding operations
  • Read work orders and set up equipment and work areas according to project specifications
  • Examine printed material and products for defects to ensure conformance to specifications
  • Perform regularly scheduled maintenance, preventative and safety checks on equipment
  • Match Bindery proofs supplied in docket
  • Check quality of job during total running at specified intervals
  • Record all counts on the appropriate forms
  • Provide on-the-job training to Machine Helpers
  • Help on other equipment when needed
  • Pack boxes as jobs required

Schedule:  Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM 4:00 PM


  • Completion of secondary education and/or equivalent
  • Minimum six months of related experience using similar bindery equipment in a commercial print environment
  • Production knowledge of Machine Bindery equipment is essential
  • Experience working in a formal Quality or ISO environment is considered an asset



  • Must be customer service oriented with good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to  lift up to 35 pounds
  • Attention to detail and quality consciousness are essential
  • Ability to read and understand instructions, follow procedures, and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination
  • Strong analytical thinking & problem solving skills
  • Strong planning and organizing
